Das exMedia Lab ist ein Arbeits- und Experimentierraum für transdisziplinäre und transmediale Projekte und die Erforschung von Material an der Schnittstelle von analogen und digitalen Realitäten, deren Technologien und Möglichkeiten über reflektiertes Denken und Handeln erforscht werden.

Gesucht wird ein*e Künstler*in/Designer*in, die*der sich mit DIY/Makerkultur beschäftigt. Kenntnisse in Rapid Prototyping, Coding, Elektronik sind erwünscht. Die praktische Auseinandersetzung mit Technologien und künstlerisch-poietischen Strategien sowie die kritische Befragung im Hinblick auf ihre ästhetischen, ethischen und gesellschaftlichen Wirkungen und Möglichkeiten ist dabei Voraussetzung. Zu der Stelle gehört die inhaltliche wie strukturelle Organisation des exMedia Labs im Team.

Voraussetzung sind ein abgeschlossenes Studium und qualifizierte theoretische und praktische Erfahrungen in den relevanten Arbeitsfeldern, nachgewiesen durch Teilnahme an internationalen Ausstellungen und Festivals oder/und durch wissenschaftliche, theoretische Beiträge bei einschlägigen Konferenzen.

Der Aufgabenbereich umfasst die Durchführung von Lehrveranstaltungen, Organisation und Mitbetreuung des exMedia Labs, Engagement in der Selbstverwaltung der Hochschule und die organisatorische Unterstützung der Fächergruppe. Das Interesse integrativ und kooperativ mit Studierenden und Kolleg*innen zusammenzuarbeiten, pädagogische Eignung sowie gute Englischkenntnisse werden erwartet. Eine Vertrautheit mit zeitgenössischen Forschungsmethoden im Spannungsfeld von Kunst und Wissenschaft ist erwünscht.

Die Aufnahme des befristeten Beschäftigungsverhältnisses nach dem Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG) setzt die Vorlage eines individuellen Qualifizierungskonzeptes voraus. Die Bewerber*innen werden deshalb gebeten, in der Bewerbung in max. 4 Seiten (inkl. Die Vergütung richtet sich nach dem Tarifvertrag (bis Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L) Die Beschäftigung erfolgt mit Blick auf die angestrebte Qualifizierung in Vollzeit bis zu 6 Jahre befristet.

The Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) offers a rigorous and interdisciplinary approach to the media arts. With its project-based "Media and Fine Arts" diploma degree, it emphasizes the development of artistic practice, together with the acquisition of media technology and media-theoretical skills. The Academy pursues an interdisciplinary approach to the teaching and researching of media and visual arts.

The department of exMedia at the KHM is offering the following position, starting from the winter semester 2025/26 on:

Assistant Professor in exMedia-Lab

The exMedia Lab is a workspace and experimental area for transdisciplinary and transmedia projects, as well as the exploration of materials at the intersection of analog and digital realities, whose technologies and possibilities are explored through reflective thinking and action.

We are looking for an artist/designer who engages with DIY/Maker culture. Knowledge of rapid prototyping, coding, and electronics is desirable. Practical engagement with technologies and artistic-poietic strategies, as well as a critical examination of their aesthetic, ethical, and societal impacts and possibilities, is a requirement. The position involves both the content-related and structural organization of the exMedia Lab within the team

Requirements include a completed degree and qualified theoretical and practical experience in the relevant fields, demonstrated through participation in international exhibitions and festivals and/or through scholarly, theoretical contributions at relevant conferences.

The responsibilities include conducting courses, organizing and co-supervising the exMedia Lab, engaging in the self-administration of the university, and providing organizational support to the department. An interest in working integratively and cooperatively with students and colleagues, pedagogical aptitude, as well as good English language skills, are expected. Familiarity with contemporary research methods in the intersection of art and science is desirable.

According to the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contracts), submitting an individual qualification proposal is a prerequisite for this position.

The fixed-term employment contract is subject to the individual qualification goals and is limited to a period of up to 6 years.
Remuneration is defined by the Tarifvertrag (Collective Agreement for the Public Service) up to Entgeltgruppe (salary grade) TV-L 13.
